“Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s Byomkesh Bakshi mysteries heralded a new era in Bengali popular fiction. Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay wrote in total 33 stories of ‘Satyanweshi’ Byomkesh Bakshi. The stories were made into a popular television series (one of my favorites) by Basu Chatterjee featuring Rajit Kapoor as Byomkesh Bakshi. However it is completely adapted to Bengali culture by the author. The character is inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Byomkesh Bakshi is a fictional Bengali detective created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay in 1932. Have you heard the name of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay ? I guess, the answer will be “No”. But I am not going to talk about these notable literary figures of Bengal. Chaudhuri, Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, Taslima Nasrin etc. I am damn sure you must have heard the names of Rabindranath Tagore, Arundhati Roy, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Nirad C. I am also a big fan of Bengali literature. wiki-commons:Special:FilePath/Byomkesh_Bakshi_Season_2.Bengal is famous for its literature, poets and rich culture.wiki-commons:Special:FilePath/Byomkesh_Bakshi_Season_1.jpeg.The intro of Byomkesh Bakshi's season 1 (en).dbc:Television_shows_set_in_West_Bengal.dbc:Television_shows_set_in_Maharashtra.dbc:Television_shows_based_on_Indian_novels. dbc:1993_Indian_television_series_debuts.wiki-commons:Special:FilePath/Byomkesh_Bakshi_Season_1.jpeg?width=300. It has been re-telecasted on DD National from 28 March 2020 during the lockdown of 21 days due to coronavirus. It became critically acclaimed and most celebrated adaptation of the character keeping it fresh even after decades. It features music and background score from Ananda Shankar. Raina as Byomkesh Bakshi and Ajit Kumar Banerjee, respectively.
